Set a Goal

How Ready Are You?

Sometimes it's the perfect time to make a change: you're energized, you're empowered, and you're able. Other times, it's more difficult. Maybe you're not sure change is needed. Or maybe change feels overwhelming. Whatever the case, readiness for change is critical to success.

Psychologist Dr. Prochaska and his colleagues maintain that change takes time, and generally occurs in certain stages. For more information, click Stages of Readiness for Change in the left column.

Step 1: Determine Readiness for Change

Now that you have identified where you want to make changes, it is important to see if you are really ready to do so.

Take the following quiz to find out what sorts of goals you are ready to tackle. It is based on work by psychologist James O. Prochaska, an expert on assessing readiness for change.

Start by thinking of one area identified in the self-assessment where you want to make changes and answer each question yes or no.
