Recommendations for Physical Activity

Help your body and mind get stronger by including physical activity into your daily routines.

Being physically active is important to help you get stronger and happier. Take a look at this section to learn more about the benefits of physical activity and current recommendations.

The following recommendations are supported by the American Cancer Society and Children’s Oncology Group:

Recommendations

Adults
  • Engage in regular physical activity. 
  • Avoid inactivity and return to normal daily activities as soon as possible following diagnosis. 
  • Aim to exercise at a moderate level (brisk walk, housework, yoga) at least 150 minutes per week or 75 minutes of vigorous activity (cycling or aerobics). 
  • Include strength training exercises at least 2 days per week.
Children
  • Engage in regular physical activity. 
  • Avoid inactivity and return to normal daily activities as soon as possible following diagnosis. 
  • Aim for 60 minutes a day of moderate to vigorous activity (running, jumping, swimming, dance).
  • Include vigorous activity three times a week
