Taking Charge Experts Launch New Integrative Health and Medicine Specialization
The same expertise that you find on the Taking Charge of Your Health and Wellbeing website has gathered to launch a new online specialization certificate in Integrative Health and Medicine. Created in partnership with global online learning leader Coursera, this specialization allows you to dig much deeper into some of the most common and helpful integrative therapies.
The specialization includes five individual courses:
- Introduction to Integrative Therapies and Healing Practices
- Guided Imagery
- Herbal Medicine
- Aromatherapy: Clinical Use of Essential Oils
- Mindfulness in Integrative Health
While we designed these courses with healthcare providers in mind, everyone with an interest in these topics is encouraged to enroll. The payback — learning very specific ways to help alleviate symptoms associated with chronic or other conditions and enhance your overall health and wellbeing.
The new specialization is available for a subscription rate of $39 per month (and this includes CE credit for nurses and health coaches). You may also audit individual courses for free.
Coursera Offerings
Introduction to Integrative Therapies and Healing Practices
This course will teach you how to safely use integrative therapies in your life and/or work, and how to assess if integrative therapies are good options in specific situations. You also will get a brief introduction to aromatherapy, botanical/herbal medicine, mindfulness, and guided imagery (which you can explore further in the other courses in the specialization).
Guided Imagery
In this course, you will learn how to use imagery to enhance overall health and wellbeing (including symptom management). By the end of the course, you will experience a variety of imagery interventions, learn how to assess if guided imagery is appropriate in specific situations, and will be comfortable writing and delivering guided imagery.
Herbal Medicine
This course will give you the knowledge of how and when to use botanical medicine. You might be surprised to learn that you may already be using herbal medicines. Taking this course will provide you with the background to safely and effectively incorporate herbal medicines into your personal life and/or work.
Mindfulness in Integrative Healthcare
By the end of this course, you will be able to assess when mindfulness may be helpful and how to use it. You will explore what mindfulness is (and is not) through presentations and direct experience. You will also learn about the research supporting the benefits (and risks) of mindfulness.
Aromatherapy: Clinical Use of Essential Oils
This course provides an overview of essential oil therapy and current aromatherapy practices. It gives you the skills to cut through the misinformation to safely and appropriately use aromatherapy. By the end of the course, you will be able to able to explain what essential oils are and how they work, assess if an essential oil might be beneficial, and more.
