Acupuncture & Acupressure

What are acupuncture and acupressure? Together we'll learn about these two closely related concepts and explore different exercises.

What is acupuncture?

Acupuncture is the insertion of very fine, filiform needles through the skin at specific points on the body with the intention of manipulating Qi. The filiform needles are solid, as opposed to the hollow hypodermic needles most people are familiar with, and are usually made of stainless steel, but can also be gold or silver.

Acupressure

Unlike acupuncture, acupressure doesn’t involve needles. Acupressure is a type of massage that you can do on your own by stimulating acupoints on your body. Many believe that applying light pressure to these points can help relieve stress, anxiety, allergies, nausea and more. Try out the different exercises below to help aid feeling tense, headaches and your overall wellbeing.

If you are new to acupressure, trying a few easy exercises to relieve tension is a good place to start.
