Mindful Moments At Work

Feeling stressed during your work day at the hospital? Try adding these mindful moments into your routine. Each time one of these activities occurs, take a moment to center yourself and bring yourself into the present moment:

• Pause/Breathe/Reflect before entering a patient's room
• Pause/Breathe/Reflect before other transitions (i.e. going to a meeting)
• Washing hands between patients
• Eating lunch or snacking at work
• Looking up a patient in EMR
• Before checking email or browsing internet (desktop or smart devices)
• Before calling a patient back (“Telephone breath”)
• Taking a short break like walking to the bathroom or to the coffee station
• Talking with co-workers
• Speaking with trainees
• S.T.O.P reminders (posting a reminder in the office or putting it in your calendar)
• R.A.I.N reminders (posting a reminder in the office or putting it in your calendar)
• Have a framed picture or a word that is a mindfulness reminder (e.g. “Breathe”) in your office or in the patient waiting area
